Horseback riding isn’t just fun – it’s beneficial in many ways – especially for children. The Pal-O-Mine Equestrian Center in New York put together a detailed list of some of the specific benefits of riding horses and we thought we’d share!
Coordination: A Benefit of Horseback Riding
First time riders will realize that riding is a lot tougher than it looks. A lot needs to happen simultaneously to get a horse to increase speed or even walk in a circle without wandering off.
Flexibility: Another Benefit of Horseback Riding
If you have tight hamstrings or glutes, other areas might help compensate to get you through a squat, but there is nothing to help your hips, adductors, or hamstrings when you’re awkwardly straddled over a horse’s back. Sit in that position long enough and your flexibility will improve.
Balance And Stability: Yet Another Benefit of Horseback Riding
Great news! Horseback riding, whether you’re a beginner or advanced rider, can improve your balance. This will carry over to other areas of your fitness and life.
